Zoo Keepers look after the animals and their living conditions within zoos, wildlife and safari parks. The profession has become more scientific in recent times and a degree in Biology, Zoology and Animal Science would be a very useful asset if you are looking to secure a job within one of the aforementioned facilities. St John’s Central College in Cork offers an Animal Management (QQI Level 6) course, which is designed to explore the large variety of establishments where animals are kept.
City & Guilds offers a number of distance learning courses in animal care. This is a UK qualification but is recognised in Ireland. UCD offers a three year(general degree) or four year (honours degree) in Zoology: the study of animals and how they interact with the environment. Trinity College offers a degree programme in Science which includes Zoology as a subject. Zoology is also taught through NUI Galway’s Science, Marine Science, Environmental Science and Earth and Ocean Science courses, and through University College Galway’s science Department.
