Architect’s plan, design and oversee the construction and creation of man made buildings, structures or projects. Their work surrounds us through the buildings we are living in and passing by everyday, and through parks, monuments, and infrastructure we encounter. Architects need creativity to produce something that is pleasing to the eye and that fits in with its surroundings.
Architects may work on a variety of projects, ranging from making changes to existing buildings to creating housing estates. Plans are designed and approved by both sides and planning permission is sought. Then contracts are agreed with the building contractor. As building work progresses, the Architect visits the site regularly to check that the work is being done according to the original drawings and specifications.
They discuss any problems with the client and specialist members of the design team at work on the project. There are many skills involved in the architectural work, including technological know-how, visual awareness, design ability and the ability to interpret the client’s ideas for the building and translate them into something tangible.
