Animators make pictures and models come to life in order to entertain and /or inform people. There are three main types of animation: drawing, Modeling and computer graphics. Projects can take anything from a few weeks to more than a year to complete, depending on how complex they are.
There are several smaller animation studios that have established in recent years in Ireland, Mainly in the Dublin area. Among them are Monster Animation, Rocket Animation , Brown Bag Films and Terraglyph Productions. These studios produce features such as computer animated programmes and children’s animation and CD-ROM games.
Animators usually follow a ‘story-board’. In drawing and modeling, the animator is aiming to produce the illusion of movement. Computer animation is used not only to make traditional images such as cartoons but also to put real people , animals, buildings and machines in films.
